Children learn to cook
Ruth, our cook has been having a lot of help from the children. They have been helping to prepare snacks and meals with Ruth. Ruth says “Because we are a small nursery all the children know me and can come and take turns to help me. They stand on stools and help me by peeling fruit and buttering bread.”
Tips for talking

Repeat what you say
It’s good to say the same thing over again. Babies and toddlers need to hear words and sentences lots of times to understand them and learn new words.
Baking a Victoria sponge
It was great fun baking the cake. We wrote a shopping list using pictures. We then went on a walk to the local shop to buy the ingredients, each child had their own item. When we got back the children donned their aprons and made the cake. Ruth cooked this in the oven for the children and then they all ate it up at snack time. The children got a good understanding of the whole process and this was a great adventure for them.
